Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Today's post is kind of a confessions post.

I confess..... I don't really like Halloween. I love the candy and seeing all the little kids so excited/dressed up but I don't enjoy dressing up at all! I don't mind carving pumpkins either but I don't decorate the house/yard or anything.

We have good friends who always have a Halloween party so usually I have to dress up and go out. However this year they were on vacation so they couldn't have their party..... I was terrible upset :)

What about you? Do you like Halloween? Did you go out this year?

Navy nails

I am loving one of fall colours for nails - navy blue!

The last time I went in to get mine done she didn't have any but fingers crossed by the next time I go she will.

Chilly Weekend

This last weekend here was chilly but the sun eventually came out on Sunday. I don't think we had seen it for a week! We didn't have too much planned and the weekend ended up being a great mix of catching up on sleep, eating (way too much), a couple runs and a round of Insanity.

Friday night we went out for supper after work since neither of us felt like cooking. We came home and did nothing!

Saturday we bundled up and headed out to Feast in the East - there was 15 food trucks from around the city there.  It was chilly but nice since there was NO line ups. Usually there is so many people at these events that the line ups are crazy!

Perogies: Regular and Carrot Cake

We had grilled cheese from here that had onions and dill pickles!

Hot Chocolate with homemade marshmallows

Then on Saturday night we drank wine and carved pumpkins

Finished product!

And of course pumpkin seeds :)

Sunday we got up and went for a run then headed out for lunch.

In the afternoon I attempted to make a gluten free and healthier version of chocolate mug cake. This one only had 4 ingredients in it and seemed to be fairly easy to make. I have found previous versions (non-gluten free) didn't turn out great.  They never seemed to taste quite right. However we actually really enjoyed it! I think it was the banana.

Friday Favourites

Happy Friday!

If you have a chance pop over and say happy birthday to Leigh!

It's been a few weeks since I have done one of my Friday posts although there has been no lack of things that make me smile :)

1. Finally getting to wear my new boots to work for casual Friday!

Yes we had the fireplace on in the morning.... the cats like to sit in front of it

2. Homemade mozzarella cheese!! I can hardly wait to have homemade pizza to put it on!

3. Our first real snow fall and wearing my Uggs for the first time this season

4. A handful of quotes that I like and need to keep in mind sometimes!

We don't have too much planned this weekend: pumpkin carving and going to a food truck event. Do you have anything planned for the weekend?

These are my confessions V14

Link up with Leigh's confession's post........

I confess……. that I may have a slight addiction to sample sized things... This kind of ties in with my post yesterday. Not only do I subscribe to a sample sized beauty program but if there is a gift with purchase offered on one of the cosmetic lines I use I will almost always buy something just so I can get the gift. Unfortunately this expands past just beauty products...... I have discovered a couple places you can get samples of household items (cleaning products, toothpaste, razors...). It's terrible how much crap I accumulate!

My 1st Topbox!

I used to subscribe to a beauty sample service Glymm but I found that I was less and less impressed with what they were sending so I just let meysubscription expire. I found a different company to try - Topbox and I was wait listed for a few months before I received my first box. I just received October's "box" and I am fairly happy with what I received.

It comes in a tube rather than a box

MaskerAide Hydrating Facial Sheet Mask one mask
Full size: 1 mask/$4.99I have seen these being blogged about recently and was intrigued. You are supposed to use it overnight.... can't wait to see Mr. H's face

Endocare Concentrated Serum 2 Ampoules
Full Size: 7x1ml/$59
Concentrated serum provides intensive rejuvenating treatments for skin.
EndocareTensage Radiance Contour deluxe sample
Full size: 15ml/$72.50
A regenerative formula designed to correct and brighten the eye contour area
I am not a fan of ampoule's...or perfume tubes. I am clumsy and always end up getting oil everywhere.  But we will see how this goes.

Stila In the Moment Eyeshadow palette Deluxe sample
Full size:14g/$50
I think this sampling of shadows of a complete palette is kind of cool. We get to try the shadows to see if we like it enough to spend the $50 on the full sized palette. I think there are probably a few uses from each shadow. Plus the sample card came with step by step instructions for two looks. They also send you colours to go with your eye colours/skin tone which is a bonus!

Vasanti Brighten Up Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
I have tried this product before and really liked it. So although it was not something new I was still excited to get it

Overall I thought it was okay this month. I love trying new products so I am willing to give it a few more months!

If you are not familiar with what Topbox is ... Topbox is a Canadian Beauty Box subscription service that retails for $10/mth for 4 premium beauty samples each month. Note that at least one product each month is makeup related.

Football, Family and Food

Happy Monday.....

This weekend we went back to my hometown for some much needed family time. Mr. H had a conference on Saturday there so we flew in Friday morning. Friday we went and saw the new lot at the lake my parents bought this summer (I can hardly wait to go out there in the summer) and then had a late Thanksgiving supper. I had to work most of Thanksgiving weekend so I was more than happy to get turkey a few weeks late!

Saturday we got tickets to the football game. If you know anyone from Saskatchewan you know we love our football team and are very loyal fans! Mr. H had never been to a Riders home game so I was excited to take him so he could experience it as well. The weather there was nice (no snow like Calgary got) and we had a great time at the game. Unfortunately the Riders lost....

Sunday we had breakfast and then came home...... to the snow

Since it is our Christmas with the in-laws it will probably we our last visit before next year. Which seems so far away.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and stayed warm

Movies

What was the last movie you saw in the theater? Was it good?

The last movie we saw in the theatre was Ted I think…. And I didn’t really like it. Neither of us did actually. Maybe we weren’t in the mood for it that day as people we talked to seemed to love it but I remember thinking how terrible I thought it was part way through.

Going to the movies is not my favourite thing to do (I usually fall asleep watching them at home and I don’t really have that option at the theatre). I much prefer to sit at home on the couch in my comfy clothes (without strangers) and enjoy the movie.

An early night, a late night and a recovery day

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Mine was a perfect mix of quiet and busy.

Friday: Mr. H and I stopped for an impromptu date night at one of our favourite neighborhood restaurants. It was nice to just sit and relax and catch up on our weeks a bit.  I worked late or had volunteer commitments every night last week so to say we didn’t get much time together is an understatement! Once we got home we watched TV for a bit and I was asleep EARLY – like 9:00pm early.

Saturday: We got up and went for a run and then I had a nail appointment (loving the new fall colours) then a few of us went out to the Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival. We had so much fun and then met up later with some other friends who were out for a birthday. So Friday’s early bed time was wiped out by Saturday’s really late bedtime.

Manicure
On our way out
Sunday:  Was a bit of a recovery day……I had more volunteer things so I went and did that in the afternoon then worked from home in the evening. Nothing too exciting.

How was your weekend?

Friday Favourites

This last week has been fairly quiet. I landed late Sunday night from Vegas and then have worked late almost every night. So this week's items that made me smile were simple little things.

Two of my favourite shows coming back on

Cute business cards that belong to a friend

A really great book that I finished reading

Girl Guide mint cookies!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. And happy turkey day to all my Canadian friends!
